Known as one of the top rated places to live and work the beautiful Thousand Oaks is a city situated in southeastern Ventura County and is also in an area known as The Conejo Valley. It is halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and is 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean.
The designated open-space nature areas occupy 34 percent of the city as of 2017. Malibu is located on the other side of the Santa Monica Mountains.
Thousand Oaks has grown due to the incorporation of neighboring cities. Two-thirds of Westlake Village (the portion within Ventura County) and most of Newbury Park were annexed by the city in the 1960s and 1970s. This is often confusing to new comers to the area and also to some locals. There is also Westlake Village (Los Angeles County) which is not located in Ventura County.
The region is known for it’s moderate Mediterranean climate, or dry-summer subtropical zone climate, with hot, sunny, dry summers and mild winters with moderate rainfall. Vegetation is typical of Mediterranean environments, with chaparral and grasses on the hillsides and numerous western valley oaks. Its elevation ranges from about 500 to 900 feet (excluding the mountains and hills). The area has slightly cooler temperatures than the surrounding areas, as it receives cooler air from the ocean through various hill and mountain passes.
A few of the unique communities of Thousand Oaks include lake front homes, homes located on Island, golf course communities and many planned developments with homes and townhomes in all price points to appeal to a vast array of residents.
There are so many options for enjoying the area, from outdoor events, hiking and biking on the many trails to enjoying music or live productions at the Civic Arts plaza performing arts center.
Home to many employers including Amgen, Anthem Blue Cross, Baxter and Dole Foods the area is also headquarters for the Los Angeles Rams as well. The area is also desirable due to the easy commute to Los Angeles and other employment centers and yet maintaining that suburban lifestyle that draws so many to this beautiful area.
